Provincial Funds help with Volleyball Courts Rebuild

The Maidstone Recreation Centre has used $62,000 in provincial funding to rebuild its four outdoor sand volleyball courts as we return to physical activity after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The money comes from the Ontario government’s Community Building Fund through the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

We are very appreciative of this funding which has allowed us to renovate our ageing courts . Contractors repaired the underground court drainage system; replaced the rotted court borders; put up new net poles and added a system that allows for the net height to be more easily adjusted for different players. As well, the ball netting was extended to 20 feet on all sides ; three inches of court sand was added and a new cement spectator area was created.

The MRC also contributed to the project on a smaller scale by adding padding to the court posts, replacing a court light pole, removing cedar trees on the east side of the court and the horseshoe pits on the south side followed by landscaping both areas.

Thanks to funding from the Ontario Government Community Building Fund through the Ontario Trillium Foundation our Maidstone volleyball courts have an increased lifespan of 20-25 years
