Ontario Trillium Grant for new outdoor washrooms

A $150,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation is being used to build new outdoor, accessible washrooms at the Maidstone Recreation Centre.

The grant, which comes from the Ontario Government through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, will be used along with funding from the Town of Tecumseh and the Maidstone Recreation Centre Corporation to construct outdoor washrooms and replace the outdated septic system . Construction is scheduled to begin this spring and finish in early fall.

Currently the Centre has only indoor washrooms which limits access and creates scheduling problems with inside hall use. The new outdoor facility will encourage present and future outdoor activities, be convenient , low maintenance and environmentally friendly. Accessibility will be improved with the addition of an adult change table.

Thank you to the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Town of Tecumseh and the Maidstone Recreation Centre Corporation for the ongoing support of outdoor activity in the Maidstone community.

Provincial Funds help with Volleyball Courts Rebuild

The Maidstone Recreation Centre has used $62,000 in provincial funding to rebuild its four outdoor sand volleyball courts as we return to physical activity after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The money comes from the Ontario government’s Community Building Fund through the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

We are very appreciative of this funding which has allowed us to renovate our ageing courts . Contractors repaired the underground court drainage system; replaced the rotted court borders; put up new net poles and added a system that allows for the net height to be more easily adjusted for different players. As well, the ball netting was extended to 20 feet on all sides ; three inches of court sand was added and a new cement spectator area was created.

The MRC also contributed to the project on a smaller scale by adding padding to the court posts, replacing a court light pole, removing cedar trees on the east side of the court and the horseshoe pits on the south side followed by landscaping both areas.

Thanks to funding from the Ontario Government Community Building Fund through the Ontario Trillium Foundation our Maidstone volleyball courts have an increased lifespan of 20-25 years

MRC Fun Day a Great Success!

The MRC Fun Day was a great success!  It was great to see families and friends get together in a day of fun events.  Clarol the Clown entertained the children with an interesting show with smiles all around.  Clarol’s associates did a great job with  face painting on some of the children and…some adults who felt in the party spirit:)  The volleyball courts were busy with some volleyball games and a day at the beach for others.  Everyone enjoyed a nice luncheon at the end of the festivities.  Thanks goes out to all the helpers including our own personal photographer.  See you next year…mrc fun day 002 mrc fun day 003 mrc fun day 007 mrc fun day 009 mrc fun day 064mrc fun day 022Clarol enticed the children to join inmrc fun day 073 mrc fun day 076 mrc fun day 077 mrc fun day 080 mrc fun day 081 mrc fun day 083mrc fun day 067 mrc fun day 078IMG_0802

October 2014

The MRC was awarded a Community Builder Grant by Libro Credit Union.  An outdoor volleyball league for Essex County youth will be offered this summer at the Maidstone Recreation Centre. With the help of supporters like the Libro Credit Union, young people in grades 8 through 11 will have an opportunity to play on four well groomed sand volleyball courts. The MRC Libro Credit Union has donated $10,000 to assist with the purchase of a small tractor and court grooming equipment.  The Bank of Montreal also donated $800 towards this initiative.
